Sony Pulls Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) dropped the hammer on Cyberpunk 2077 earlier this week, by withdrawing the game from the PlayStation Store, and offering full refunds to anyone who wants it. It appears like the move affects Cyberpunk 2077 availability for all PlayStation gamers, and not just those on older-generation consoles such as the PlayStation 4. "SIE strives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, therefore we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store. SIE will also be removing Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store until further notice," reads the company's statement.

To seek a refund, simply log in to the refund claims page with your PlayStation ID. Once SIE verifies that you purchased your copy of Cyberpunk 2077 via the PlayStation Store, you have the option to request a full refund, which removes the game from your library, and processes a refund to your original mode of payment. The move follows a massive backlash on social media by console gamers—particularly those on older-gen consoles such as PS4 and Xbox One; claiming that the game has glaring bugs and doesn't look nearly as good as shown in its trailers. CD Projekt Red admitted that it didn't show gamers how Cyberpunk 2077 plays on older consoles; and offered full refunds.

CD Projekt Red Removes Critic Score Requirements for Developer Bonuses, and an Editor's Thoughts

CD Projekt Red has announced that all of its developers will receive appropriate bonuses for their hard work in Cyberpunk 2077. These developer bonuses are usually dangled in front of developers with several caveats added, such as sales targets, critical reception based on Metacritic (of all things), and other factors. However, the company has decided to forgo these requirements in light of the hard eight years of toiling, and the prolonged periods of crunch with six workdays, that it put its team through. This is a wise decision, and one that shouldn't really have to be lauded - it should be common practice. But since it isn't, here we are, and CD Projekt Red deserves the accolades.

Cyberpunk 2077 achieved an 8 million pre-order milestone before it was ever released; that many pre-orders meant that the game had essentially recouped its development and marketing costs before it ever went gold. Of course, somelast-gen console returns might take a bite into those sales numbers, but ultimately, it's a game that has been very well received, despite its many bugs and crashes. Sales figures are only going to increase from here on, and that means every sold copy of the game is another bill on the company's coffers.

CD Projekt RED today issued an apology to gamers for a buggy release of Cyberpunk 2077, a game that the studio treated as its magnum opus. The open-letter apology addressed to gamers at large, and signed by CDPR higher-ups; in particular expressed regret to gamers on older-generation game consoles such as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Cyberpunk 2077 looks and plays terrible on these older consoles, despite the studio charging the same $60 for the title. Game assets such as textures are of the lowest possible resolution, as is the geometry, draw-distance, and even crowds and character models. In particular, CDPR acknowledged the fact that before launch, the studio hadn't shown footage of how the game plays on these older consoles, which deprived gamers of making more informed choices.

As a token of apology, CDPR offered gamers on these older consoles full refunds on their games purchased on Xbox or PSN. Those with physical copies of the game may return it to their retailers for refunds. CDPR set up an e-mail support service for those facing difficulties in getting refunds. For those who decide to give CDPR a chance at redemption; the studio promised a major game patch slated for January 2021, and a follow-up second-patch in February. The PC version of Cyberpunk 2077 is getting regular updates through all the platforms it's sold on (GOG, Steam, and EGS).

Steam has recently recorded a new peak concurrent player record of 24,804,148 users, this record comes after the previous record was broken in March as lockdowns and stay at home orders were issued. The release of Cyberpunk 2077 is a driving factor of the cause of this new record as the game recorded over 1 million concurrent users. The game had sold over 8 million pre-orders across all platforms leading up to its release with Steam sales accounting for over 50 million USD. This stellar release combined with the growing popularity of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive also surpassing 1 million concurrent players helped break the previous record.

NVIDIA Updates Cyberpunk 2077, Minecraft RTX, and 4 More Games with DLSS

NVIDIA's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology uses advanced methods to offload sampling in games to the Tensor Cores, dedicated AI processors that are present on all of the GeForce RTX cards, including the prior Turing generation and now Ampere. NVIDIA promises that the inclusion of DLSS is promising to deliver up to a 40% performance boost, or even more. Today, the company has announced that DLSS is getting support in Cyberpunk 2077, Minecraft RTX, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, CRSED: F.O.A.D., Scavengers, and Moonlight Blade. The inclusion of these titles is now making NVIDIA's DLSS technology present in a total of 32 titles, which is no small feat for new technology.

Cyberpunk 2077 Game and Performance Review Roundup—The Antidote to 2020?

The most anticipated (read: hyped) PC game for several years now—Cyberpunk 2077—from CD Projekt Red, is almost here, and several gaming publications posted reviews of the game, as well as the way it handles on the PC. Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world action-adventure RPG set in the near-future, with a non-linear adventure plot-line joined by dozens upon dozens of main- and side missions—not unlike GTA or RDR. What sets Cyberpunk's premise apart has to be its beautiful world that seems sufficiently futuristic to seem "plausible," and doesn't get carried away by futuristic tropes set by sci-fi franchises like "Star Trek." There's also plenty of social commentary from the creators through the game, which points to where we are likely headed.

As of this writing, review aggregator Metacritic rates Cyberpunk 2077 at 91, based on 44 critic reviews; while OpenCritic bases its bases its Top Critic Average at 91. The single player campaign consists of a main quest with innumerable optional quests. Night City and thereabouts, the fictional post-apocalyptic megapolis the game is based on, is a sprawling techno-concrete jungle with plenty to explore and unravel. Your skill-tree and abilities are based on cybernetic body implants and weapon mods. Critics highly praise the gameplay, the main quest, and the production value of the game—what you're paying for. At the same time, technical reviews point to the game still being extremely heavy on even the latest "Ampere" and "Big Navi" graphics cards, and despite CDPR taking its own sweet time releasing the game; it's still riddled with bugs and glitches that the studio will spend weeks—if not months—fixing.

CD Projekt Red Unveils Exclusive RTX 3080 Cyberpunk 2077 Card

CD Projekt Red is expected to release Cyberpunk 2077 on December 10th after numerous delays. To commemorate the launch CD Projekt Red are giving away a single limited edition GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card on the Chinese social media platform Bilibili. You may remember the special edition RTX 2080 Ti which NVIDIA launched earlier this year, while that model received an official launch this RTX 3080 appears to be a single custom modified card. Cyberpunk 2077 will only support hardware-accelerated raytracing on NVIDIA hardware at launch making the RTX 3080 a great card for the job. The contest is still open but only available to those with a Weibo account.

Cyberpunk 2077 System Requirements Lists Updated, Raytracing Unsupported on RX 6800 Series at Launch

CD Projekt RED released updated PC system requirements lists for "Cyberpunk 2077," which will hopefully release before the year 2077. There are a total of seven user experience grades, split into conventional raster 3D graphics, and with raytracing enabled. The bare minimum calls for at least a GeForce GTX 780 or Radeon RX 480; 8 GB of RAM, Core i3 "Sandy Bridge" or AMD FX "Bulldozer," and 64-bit Windows 7. The 1080 High grade needs at least a Core i7 "Haswell" or Ryzen 3 "Raven Ridge" processor, 12 GB of RAM, GTX 1060 6 GB or GTX 1660 Super or RX 590 graphics. The 1440p Ultra grade needs the same CPUs as 1080p High, but with steeper GPU requirements of at least an RTX 2060 or RX 5700 XT.

The highest sans-RT grade, 4K UHD Ultra, needs either the fastest i7-4790 "Haswell" or Ryzen 5 "Zen 2" processor, RTX 2080 Super or RTX 3070, or Radeon RX 6800 graphics. Things get interesting with the three lists for raytraced experience. 1080p Medium raytraced needs at least an RTX 2060; 1440p High raytraced needs an RTX 3070, and 4K UHD Ultra raytraced needs at least a Core i7 "Skylake" or Ryzen 5 "Zen 2" chip, and RTX 3080 graphics. All three raytraced presets need 16 GB of RAM. Storage requirements across the board are 70 GB, and CDPR recommends the use of an SSD. What's interesting here is that neither the RX 6800 nor RX 6800 XT make it to the raytraced list (despite the RX 6800 finding mention in the non-raytraced lists). PC Gamer reports that Cyberpunk 2077 will not enable raytracing on Radeon RX 6800 series at launch. CDPR, however, confirmed that it is working with AMD to optimize the game for RDNA2, and should enable raytracing "soon."

The hype surrounding the Cyberpunk 2077 game is huge. Even with the delays, the game is managing to still keep the hype alive using various marketing efforts. The developers of the game, CD Projekt RED, have decided to make a collaboration with Razer to develop a gaming mouse. Wait for It: Cyberpunk 2077 Delayed to December 10th

Developer CD Projekt Red has announced that Cyberpunk 2077 is now facing another delay - this one of just 21 days. The game is now slated for release on December 10th, which gives the developer more time to work on the launch-day patch so that everything runs as smoothly as possible when the game is out in the wild and in the hands of millions of expectant gamers.

The developer clarified that the reason for the game's delay is the need to launch it concurrently on all platforms they've committed to - current-gen, next-gen, PC, and Stadia. In total, the developer is working on polishing and testing nine different versions of the game (PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PC, and Stadia). This is just mind-bogglingly complex, as you might expect. We also have to take into account that CD Projekt Red has its own shoes to fill when it comes to final quality, and we must remember that first impressions make or break a videogame's reception in the current climate (remember Mass Effect: Andromeda or any other number of games). It seems that the cautious, methodical approach may be the best one for such a high-stakes release. I, for one, would much rather enjoy a game with less chances of game-breaking bugs than a rushed release - especially considering the amount of platforms the game is shipping for.

Cyberpunk 2077 Has Gone Gold, November 17 Launch Almost a Given

CD Projekt Red announced that Cyberpunk 2077, the year's most anticipated game has gone Gold, meaning that its release-to-market version is ready, which it can pass on to its distributors. "See you in Night City on November 19th!," reads the CDPR tweet announcing the Gold status. The game had seen a series of launch delays in its nearly decade-long development cycle. Cyberpunk is an open-world RPG, not much unlike GTA. The game is based on a fictional city along the US west coast called Night City, set in the year 2077, when technology is a force of nature. NVIDIA Announces Financial Results for Second Quarter Fiscal 2021

NVIDIA today reported record revenue for the second quarter ended July 26, 2020, of $3.87 billion, up 50 percent from $2.58 billion a year earlier, and up 26 percent from $3.08 billion in the previous quarter.

GAAP earnings per diluted share for the quarter were $0.99, up 10 percent from $0.90 a year ago, and down 33 percent from $1.47 in the previous quarter. Non-GAAP earnings per diluted share were $2.18, up 76 percent from $1.24 a year earlier, and up 21 percent from $1.80 in the previous quarter. NVIDIA closed its acquisition of Mellanox Technologies Ltd. on April 27, 2020. "Adoption of NVIDIA computing is accelerating, driving record revenue and exceptional growth," said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. "Growth in GeForce gaming accelerated as gamers increasingly immerse themselves in realistic virtual worlds created by NVIDIA RTX ray tracing and AI.

Cyberpunk 2077 a DX12-Only Release on PC

Marcin Gollent, Lead Graphics Programmer at CD Projekt RED revealed in an interview with PC Games Hardware that cyberpunk 2077 would only support DX12 on the PC release, which means that gamers playing on either Windows 8 or (god forbid) older windows releases won't be able to partake in the cyberpunk dream of Night City. A special note to Windows 7 users though - the game will be supported on Windows 7's DX12 implementation as well. The decision to cut out other API's isn't an opaque one - Marcin Gollent himself said that DX12 was chosen as the only development target due to the fact that it's the rendering API for the Xbox family of consoles (including for the next-generation ones), and thus, a decision to streamline the rendering pipeline and API support was made.

The decision was also made, according to the developer, because DX12 is the birthplace of DXR - and CD Projekt Red has already announced that cyberpunk 2077 will be making heavy use of raytracing on the PC (and will almost certainly bring the same magic potion to the next-generation update to their yet-unreleased game). Marcin Gollent also said that the game will be compatible with all DX12 GPUs - but the DX12 Ultimate badge might be of interest to some of the hardware features that may be deployed in the final version of the game. A question, of course, could be asked regarding how some games' DX11 API actually delivers increased performance over the DX12 version. But with the game being originally developed with DX12 in mind, we'll have to believe it's the best version it could be.

Cyberpunk 2077 will have "GTA Mode"

CD Project RED, the maker behind highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 game has given out some exciting information about the game. In a recent interview with PCGamesN, Max Pears, a designer involved in Cyberpunk 2077 development, has said that the game will have a "Grand Theft Auto (GTA) mode". "If you want to go out on a rampage and have no remorse, then you have got the option, and that's fine with us", said Mr. Pears. "However, once you start to play the missions and see the amount of options you have. I think that will make players stop and think a little bit before doing something reckless.", he adds, "We've seen a lot of people default to that 'GTA mode' and then after a little bit they realize how many things are different and adjust how they play". The game is officially launching on November 19, so we have to wait and see that gameplay.

Cyberpunk 2077 Graphics Comparison Video Between 2018 and 2020 Builds Shows Many Differences

Cyberpunk 2077 is the year's most awaited game release, and has been met with not one, but two delays already. Originally expected to ship in April of this year, it has since been postponed to September, and now to November 19th on account of extra optimization and bug quashing from developer CD Projekt Red. However, the recent gameplay videos released for the game by the developer showcase the amount of work that has gone into the engine since 2018, when we were first treated to a gameplay video.

The video after the break comes courtesy of YouTube user 'Cycu1', who set up the 2018 and 2020 trailers side by side. In it, you can see extreme improvements to overall level and character detail (some of this can certainly be attributed to a lower-quality 2018 video compression). However, the video also showcases some lighting differences (I guess it's subjective whether this has worked out for better or worse, but the new videos supposedly make use of ray tracing). Another point that I'd like to call your attention to is that there seem to be some environment differences between the two versions - it seems that some environments were simplified compared to their 2018 version, such as the "Going Pro" mission - the chair and panels were removed from the environment and replaced by what looks like a garage door. Whether this was done as a way to improve performance is on CD Projekt Red's purview.

CD Projekt Red Releases Latest Cyberpunk 2077 Trailer Featuring DLSS 2.0 & Ray Tracing

CD Projekt Red has released their latest trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 showcasing the spectacular visuals for the upcoming action-adventure-RPG. NVIDIA has confirmed that the trailer included Ray-Traced Diffuse Illumination, Ray-Traced Reflections, Ray-Traced Ambient Occlusion, and Ray-Traced Shadows real-time ray-tracing effects. These effects are powered by the DirectX 12 Ultimate's DXR Raytracing API and are optimized for GeForce RTX graphics GPUs.

NVIDIA also announced that the game would feature DLSS 2.0 tech which uses custom deep learning neural networks to boost game FPS. When Cyberpunk 2077 launches later this year, it will be available on GeForce NOW, with full support for ray-tracing effects and DLSS 2.0 at 1080p 60 FPS.

The pack which totals 4GB includes a compilation of official digital content previously released by CD PROJEKT RED as well as brand new concept arts, desktop wallpapers, and printable posters. The giveaway is time-limited and will run until 4th July 2020, 5 PM UTC.

The Ultimate RED Collection has also returned to the store, containing a pre-order for Cyberpunk 2077 and all The Witcher games. This pack is priced at 87.77 USD and is available until the 4th of July 2020, 5 PM UTC. CD Projekt Red to Offer Free Cyberpunk 2077 Upgrades to Next-Gen Console Versions

CD Projekt Red has announced that their upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 will be upgraded, free of charge, to a revised version in the wake of both next-gen console systems from Sony and Microsoft being released. This means that users who ordered (or will order) the game for current-gen systems will see their version be automatically upgraded to a next-gen one when they boot up their next-generation games console. This next-generation re-release of Cyberpunk 2077 will take advantage of the new consoles' much increased horsepower in both graphics and storage system terms.

The update, much like the game, will be ready "when it's ready". Only CD Projekt Red knows when it is hoping to release this update. We would think that a release next-year, after the entire planned DLC packages for the game are released, would be a great time to launch the updated version and re-release the game for next-gen systems as a "Game of the Year" version or a next--gen remaster. Of course, PC users don't have to fiddle with any of these upgrades - we'll be getting the games definitive version, including ray tracing support, on day one.

Cyberpunk 2077 Delayed Again: Now coming November 19th; Previews Coming After June 25th

CD Projekt Red has announced another delay for what most certainly is the most anticipated game of this year. Cyberpunk 2077, which had a release date set for September, had already been delayed from its original release date in April. Now, the developers have announced they need some more time with the game before they let it loose on soon-to-be-empty shelves and digital storefronts.

Fret not: the game is apparently in great development shape. The announcement that was made today makes it clear that the game is already technically finished: all the quests, cutscenes, skills, items, and functionality are already in place. However, the game itself has become so complex that CD Projekt Red wants these extra months to get balance and bugs just right for the games' release. This makes sense, as it seems that CD Projekt Red's systems will be intertwined in a much more organic way than they ever did in The Witcher 3, which could result in some emergent gameplay and consequences for the games' systems. CD Projekt has already started distributing the game to specific outlets and gaming media who will be releasing their previews after the Night City Wire event, set for June 25th (itself delayed from June 11th as a show of respect for the Black Lives Matter movement). To their credit, the team at CD Projekt keeps their promises once again: the game will ship. When it's ready.

The Witcher Franchise Soars Past 50 Million Games Sold

CD Projekt Red announced that the cumulative sale of games in the Witcher franchise has surpassed the 50 million mark. This news comes three years after the developer broke through the 25 million mark on the same franchise, and speaks to the intemporality that can be achieved by games developed during the last gen. While there will always be improvements in graphics technologies (though the diminishing returns equation is already definitely present), it can be said that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt still remains a beautiful game today. This is true even if you don't consider the numerous graphical improvement mods that have been made available since; and that helps games keep their sales momentum for many more years than those developed in previous gens.

Sales of games on The Witcher franchise have obviously increased following Netflix's successful adaptation of the universe for its The Witcher streaming series, with original author of The Witcher, Andrzej Sapkowski, also enjoying increased book sales in the same period. It's a circular system of sorts - and a well deserved one for CD Projekt Red. Here's hoping the developers can achieve the same level of acclaim (and sales) on their Cyberpunk 2077 project - only four months to go now.
