This Week in Gaming (Week 46)

As it's getting darker in the northern hemisphere, we're seeing a continuing stream of new game releases and this week's AAA title appears to involve hammers and ruins of some kind. The rest of this week's releases includes tiny civilizations, rhythms, faith, flashbacks and a Japanese game. Take a gander below to see if there's something for you or maybe you're suffering from new game release overload already?

Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin / This week's AAA title / Friday 17 November
Wage a campaign of brutal conquest in this realm-shattering real-time strategy game set in the Warhammer Age of Sigmar universe. Explore the nature of war from the perspectives of righteous champions and villainous warlords. Battle for survival and dominance across a campaign featuring four major factions, including Stormcast Eternals, Orruk Kruleboyz, Nighthaunt and the Disciples of Tzeentch! Experience a cinematic plot, penned in conjunction with acclaimed Black Library author, Gavin Thorpe.
Microcivilization / Monday 13 November
In Microcivilization you explore, expand, exploit and exterminate all together in a pixel-art strategy-clicker game blend. Start the non-linear growth of your population and economical strength while discovering government combinations, hundreds of unique heroes and experimenting with ability builds for both combat and construction challenges.
Super Crazy Rhythm Castle / Tuesday 14 November
An unforgettable journey with a light heart and a tapping foot. You'll become one with the music and the madness. Unlikely heroes, approach Rhythm Castle!
Inside, the unhinged King Ferdinand awaits, ready to defend his crown and ruin your day. Overcome his twisted challenges and beat him in his own game.
Throw beans into an ancient summoning ritual. Shut down a giant eggplant DJ. Cover tiny meat people in gravy for reasons that we promise will become clear.
All while keeping the beat!
The Last Faith / Wednesday 15 November
A dark, gothic fusion of metroidvania and soulslike. The Last Faith thrives on merciless and precise combat with a huge range of weapons, firearms, and custom executions at your disposal. Let nothing stand in your way.
Flashback 2 / Thursday 16 November
In 1992, Flashback revolutionized action gaming and gained legendary status, ranking among the 100 best video games in history. Today, Paul Cuisset, the creator of the original game, invites you to play again as Conrad B. Hart, the young agent of the GBI (Galactic Bureau of Investigation). In the 22nd century, the peace of the United Worlds extends throughout the Solar System—but this tranquility is threatened by the Morph invasion led by the fearsome General Lazarus.
Persona 5 Tactica / Friday 17 November
After a strange incident, the Phantom Thieves wander into a bizarre realm where its citizens are living under tyrannical oppression. Surrounded by a military group named Legionnaires, they find themselves in grave danger until a mysterious revolutionary named Erina rescues them and offers an enticing deal in exchange for their help. What truth lies behind Erina and the deal she offers to the Phantom Thieves?

Broken Roads followed by The Last Faith, maybe that Warhammer game (but I'm not real a big fan of Warhammer). Everything else looks meh, including Persona 5 Tactica.

The Last Faith and Flashback 2 look interesting. Interesting enough for me to buy them? We'll see. They're probably wishlist-worthy, though. :)

I take it you never played the original Flashback?
olymind1Broken Roads Delayed Until Early 2024

Great, they couldn't have posted that a bit more prominent on their site?
Also, they apparently didn't bother changing the release date on steam either...

Updated with a different game.

I am trying to remember what's the last and newest game I actually played to the end, and I can't remember. I have been mostly playing emulators of PS2 and Switch games. I think the newest game I finished might be Breath of the wild.

Three games stand out to me in today's lineup.

Broken Roads looks like an old-school tactical RPG, a genre I really enjoy. The setting and the freedom to make your own choices remind me of the classic Fallout games, which are among my all-time favorites.

Being a huge fan of rhythm games and absurdist humor, I'll definitely give Super Crazy Rhythm Castle a try, even though it seems to be a co-op game primarily.

Flashback 2 is also on my radar, with its nostalgic 2.5 D presentation. I loved cinematic platformers back in the day.

The Warhammer game looks nice, reminds me of the first Dawn of War, but in a fantasy setting.

What the hell are they doing with the persona franchise? lol
And to think that this started with the super tense Shin Megami Tensei and we ended up here... It's so.. Meh.

I also wish for more mainline games! Persona - not my cup of tea. However, they already had childishly-cartoonish-looking Persona Q back in 3DS days, Tactica looks more or less like that one did.

I played the original when it was released, l just don't care about the "sequel" (which it already got in form of Fade to Black back in 1995).

Is Flashback 2 supposed to be a sequel? I would absolutely play the heck out of that just for the nostalgia and continuation of a pretty decent plot.

The original has you start the exact same way, you (Conrad) discover a plot of Alien infiltration and you escape capture, crashing into the jungle and spending the game working your way through the city evading aliens disguised as police. Over the course of the game (spoilers)
you end up following the plot through a "The Running Man" game show of death, winning a ticket to Earth where you find the portal that links Earth and the Alien homeworld. Long story short you save Earth by blowing up the alien homeworld but you are stranded in a distant galaxy with no way back to humanity so you put yourself into suspended animation and the credits roll.

So as far as I'm aware, The original flashback cannot start in human-civilised space, right?
