This Week in Gaming (Week 32)

The month of August keeps delivering when it comes to new game releases and this week's AAA title appears to involve a lot of sand and dust, as well as fallen gods. The rest of the releases to look forward to include everything from wrestling to enjoying the apocalypse, to forest bandits, a musical and being a mechanic in space. Last week we managed to please 58 percent of you, which was a new record, but we don't expect to reach those kinds of numbers this week.

Atlas Fallen / This week's AAA title / Thursday 10 August
Rise from the dust and liberate mankind from the oppression of a corrupted god. Glide the sands of a timeless land, filled with ancient dangers, mysteries and fragments of the past. Hunt legendary monsters, using powerful, shape-shifting weapons and devastating sand-powered abilities in spectacular, super-powered combat. Target and gather the essence of your enemies to shape your own custom playstyle, forging a new era for humanity in a fully cooperative or solo story campaign.
WrestleQuest / Monday 7 August
Tag team with destiny! Pro wrestling and RPG fantasy collide in the ultimate pixel powered adventure. "Macho Man" Randy Savage and tons of other icons offer guidance as you powerbomb your way to glory beyond the ring. This hero's journey ain't just an epic quest, it's WrestleQuest!
I Am Future: Cozy Apocalypse Survival / Tuesday 8 August
I Am Future is a relaxing survival game about building a cozy rooftop camp amid a flooded post-apocalyptic city. Set up a farm, cook delicious food, dismantle tools for crafting resources, automate chores by recruiting cute robots, and uncover the mystery behind the catastrophe.
Robin Hood - Sherwood Builders - Bandit's Trail / Wednesday 9 August
Robin Hood: Sherwood Builders is an action-adventure RPG with city-building elements, where you take on the role of a classic hero who stands up to the tyranny and injustice that haunts Sherwood. As Robin, you'll fight, hunt, craft, steal, and of course help the local people thrive to spite the Sheriff of Nottingham and his ruthless regime - all within an open-world environment that can be freely explored.
Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical / Thursday 10 August
Gods. Romance. Murder. Musical Numbers?! Play as Grace in a world where Greek Gods live in hiding among us. Change your fate as you draw friends, foes & lovers into song using your powers of musical persuasion to unravel the mystery of the Last Muse's death.
Space Mechanic Simulator / Friday 11 August
Become a Space Mechanic! Get your hands dirty, explore the depths of space and repair broken machinery. Diagnose problems using diagrams and tools, perform repairs, manage your resources and watch the simulated machinery come alive. Or just gaze upon the beauty of the Solar System.

Space Mechanic Simulator looks interesting.

I'm wondering how many more bland, generic fantasy action RPGs we're gonna get with "Fallen" in the title?

Your last two words say it all: it looks exactly like "such games". At least I don't see anything that would make it stand out in any way.

And it doesn't have to, not every game has to re invent the wheel or something as long as its fun and not relased in a garbage way like most of 2023's titles.
Thats all that matters to me really.

Imo, there's way too many films, TV series and games these days, so any new creation has to give me something extra to make it worth my time playing/watching it instead of playing/watching something else. Being "okay" is not enough. But each to their own. :)

Oh, I'm very easy to satisfy with hardware! My spare card is a 6500 XT that I love to bits.

But games are a different story. I'm a very slow gamer. It takes me months to finish a game, and with that much time invested, I have to make sure it's worth it. Also, I grew up playing legends like Half-Life, Age of Empires 2, TES4: Oblivion, The Witcher, and such, so I expect no less in quality. :ohwell:

It isn't just a copy paste though, based on what I have seen the whole sand theme is really awesome looking with these next Gen graphics. I will probably pick this up if it reviews well and and only when it hits the 20 dollar bin or under. I rarely pay full price for a game these days.

It has sand? Um... okay? That doesn't convince me. I've watched the trailer, and couldn't pick a single thing that would make it look like an AAA title to me. It's just my opinion, though.

I've also played those games back in the days, well HL 1 only in the recent years via Black Mesa but you get the point.
I'm also fairly slow at finishing games nowadays and have a never ending backlog.

From the look of it Atlas Fallen will join that backlog cause I can hardly finish what I'm playing currently and I already have plans to play other games.

Some original combos in this week's lineup! WrestleQuest and Stray Gods stand out to me, and being a huge fan of musicals I might give the latter a try.

With a handful of exceptions, modern AAA releases are of zero interest to me from the gameplay perspective. Been having much more fun with indie releases and classic titles for a few good years now.

Same here. Out of the 500-ish games I have on Steam, I've played maybe 100. The rest have been waiting for me to catch up since forever. I hate that I never have time for anything I want, but oh well.

For this reason, Atlas Fallen will not make it onto my backlog. It has to show something more, something extra, that for now, it doesn't seem to have. It's just "a" game.

I'm the same with films and TV-shows. A friend of mine has been suggesting all kind of stuff to watch, but I can't bring myself to do it. There's loads of content these days, but not much of it is worth my time. :ohwell:

And this is why I try my best to include a wide range of games. To be fair, a lot of it is random picks of things I hope someone here might appreciate, but sometimes there's nothing exciting at all being relesed on some days and I just have to throw something in.

I'm more concerned whether current flagship graphics cards can keep up with WrestleQuest. This titles out of this world!!

i'll join on the atlas fallen discussion: i think the thing that mostly attracts me is coop, i'm tired of single player or pvp trash, i want sprawling big RPGs that are coop.
But it's not the kind of game i play(combo-chaining big flashy stuff with HP bars), maybe when it's free on epic i'll play it.

The Atlans Fallen looks OK and i would give it a go. At a first glance it looks like the Assassins Creed :) I just hope it brings a bit more to the table than jumping around.
